Breast Augmentation Falls to Number 2 in ASAPS Statistics

Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), one of two major plastic surgery organizations in the US, shows that breast augmentation has lost its briefly-held title as the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the US, falling to number 2 in 2011, after liposuction. According to the ASAPS statistics, there were about 9.2 million cosmetic procedures performed in the US last year, including surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Overall, surgical procedures increased by almost a full percentage point over 2010, but nonsurgical procedures declined by almost 2%, something the organization contributes to a desire for lasting results. Another noteworthy statistic: about two-thirds of women who had breast augmentation received silicone gel breast implants, which surgeons say indicates that surgeons and patients have fully accepted the safety of this type of breast implants.
