Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

Posted on May 24, 2014 Facial Procedures

When considering rhinoplasty (nose job), it is important to determine which type of rhinoplasty surgery you want to have. Open and closed rhinoplasty are simply the two different options for how our doctors would approach your surgery. Choosing the right type of surgery is dependent on the person and on the needs of your surgery. Our doctor will work with you to determine which approach would benefit you the most.

When considering rhinoplasty, Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. David Bottger suggests you listen to your doctor because each person is different and what’s best for you will be based on your situation and desired outcome.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty involves cuts made inside the nose. After this Dr. Bottger will improve your nasal shape by adjusting the bone and cartilage.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty includes the same cuts as closed rhinoplasty, but also involves an incision at the bottom of the nose as well. This gives Dr. Bottger a better opportunity to form the tip of the nose as well.
