Philadelphia tummy tuck We want our Philadelphia-area patients to have a pleasant, comfortable experience during their time with us. This includes doing everything we can to ensure your recovery is successful. This is particularly important after a tummy tuck, which is a significant procedure.

The most important consideration when it comes to your tummy tuck recovery is to follow all of Dr. Bottger's pre-surgical instructions. These instructions are designed to protect you during your recovery and ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.

Most patients can return to work within a week or two after their surgery, and you can usually resume light workouts about two weeks after your procedure. You will probably be able to return to your full workout regimen – including weight lifting and aerobic work – about six to eight weeks after your procedure.

You can expect to experience some swelling and bruising in the days after your procedure, as well as some discomfort. We'll provide you with a compression garment and prescription medication to use in case they're necessary.

Of course, every patient is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all recovery process. You'll want to take it easy and invest plenty of time in rest and relaxation. Err on the side of caution, and give your body time to recover from the trauma of major surgery.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you're considering a tummy tuck, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929.

Philadelphia liposuction Liposuction is an excellent way for Philadelphia-area residents to remove stubborn deposits of fat that don't respond to diet and exercise. One of the reasons for this is that liposuction is an exceptionally safe procedure.

But this is only true if you take the necessary precautions, listen to Dr. Bottger's instructions and follow some simple steps in preparing for your liposuction surgery. If you do, your chances of having a safe, successful procedure are very good.

Here are some steps you can take to prepare for liposuction:

  • Share your complete medical history, including any allergies, with our staff. This is absolutely crucial.
  • Give up smoking. This can greatly aid the healing and recovery process after your liposuction procedure.
  • Make arrangements to have yourself driven home from your procedure – you won't be able to drive yourself. And look into getting some help around the house – you'll want to take some time off and relax.
  • More generally, you should carefully listen to all of Dr. Bottger's instructions and follow them completely. These instructions are for your own safety, and following them is absolutely in your best interests.

Of course, we understand you likely still have questions about liposuction surgery, and we want to answer all of them. This is, in fact, one more crucial component of preparing for liposuction surgery – asking questions, getting comfortable with the procedure and learning exactly what to expect from liposuction and your recovery process.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you want to learn more about the liposuction procedure, please call Dr. David A. Bottger today at 610-355-1929 for a consultation and examination.

Philadelphia rhinoplasty surgeonOne of the most important attributes for a plastic surgeon, and one that comes only through experience, is understanding how all of a patient's facial features interact to form a larger, aesthetically pleasing whole. This is particularly important when one of our Philadelphia-area patients is considering a rhinoplasty.

Why? For one thing, the nose is one of the most prominent features on your face. As a result, any changes to your nose will affect the way all of your facial features are balanced.

But there are more substantive considerations as well. Recent studies have found that, in some cases, a rhinoplasty procedure can actually increase upper lip projection – that is, it can pull the upper lip up and forward. This is particularly common when one of the goals of the rhinoplasty is to increase the distance between the tip of the nose and the plane of the face.

For some patients, this is actually desirable. For others, it's not. Every patient is unique. That's why we have a long, involved conversation with all of our patients before moving forward with any procedure. It's important that we understand your aesthetic goals, and it's equally important that you understand the ways in which your nose reshaping goals will impact the balance and harmony of your other facial features.

Dr. Bottger will work with you to develop a customized rhinoplasty plan that will deliver the beautiful, natural looking results you desire while maintaining balance with the rest of your features.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you have questions about the rhinoplasty procedure, please call Dr. David Bottger today at 610-355-1929 to schedule a consultation.

Philadelphia breast augmentationFor our Philadelphia-area patients, there's no doubt that a natural-looking breast augmentation is a significant priority. We understand you want your breast implants to look – and feel - as natural as possible after your procedure.

But how can you achieve this? What choices can you make that will result in the most natural-looking breast augmentation results?

The first decision is choosing the right plastic surgeon. Dr. Bottger is an experienced plastic surgeon with decades of work performing breast augmentations. He knows how to help guide you through the process and then perform the procedure in a way that's safe and effective.

Next, you have to make a series of decisions. In most cases, silicone breast implants look and feel more natural than saline implants. But beyond that, the “right” decisions depend on your specific circumstances.

It's important, for example, to choose breast implants that are an appropriate size for your body type and frame. Opting for implants that are too large is one way to make your implants look less natural than possible.

Fortunately, the breast augmentation is infinitely customizable, and you'll be able to work in concert with Dr. Bottger to make the right choices for you. If natural-looking results are priorities for you, they are priorities for us, too.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you want to learn more about the breast augmentation procedure, please call Dr. David A. Bottger today at 610-355-1929 for a consultation.

Philadelphia breast implantsOne question we hear a lot from Philadelphia-area women considering a breast augmentation is, “Will this procedure be permanent?” Patients understandably want to know how long they can expect their breast implants to last.

There's one simple answer to this: a breast augmentation is not a permanent procedure. Breast implants, like anything else manufactured by human beings, will eventually need to be replaced.

The question of when your breast implants will need to be replaced is not so easy to predict, however. There's no hard and fast answer. It's impossible to say, “You should get your implants replaced X years after undergoing surgery.”

The reality is that everybody is different, and implants will age and wear at different speeds. It's important to find an experienced plastic surgeon to place your implants, as that can definitely make a difference in their durability. And the details of your procedure, the choices you make, will play a role as well.

If your implants are made from quality materials and placed by an experienced, qualified plastic surgeon, there's usually no need to start thinking about replacement for at least a decade after your procedure. It's a good idea, if you opt for silicone implants, to return for periodic MRIs just to ensure that your implants are still in good shape – modern silicone implants retain their shapes even in the event of a rupture, which means noticing that failure can be tricky.

Always be on the lookout for any changes in the size or shape of your implants, and don't dismiss any sudden pain or discomfort should you experience these at any point after your procedure. If you do, call our office immediately to arrange an appointment with Dr. Bottger.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you're considering breast implants, please call Dr. David A. Bottger today at 610-355-1929 to schedule a consultation.

Recovery after breast augmentation in PhiladelphiaIf you're like most of our Philadelphia-area patients, you're a busy woman. You have a lot of commitments, and you don't want to take a lot of time off work to recover from a breast augmentation. So you probably have a lot of questions about the recovery process – specifically, how long is it going to take?

Here's the first thing to remember: every patient is unique, and so is the recovery process. People of the same age and the same basic health status can undergo the same procedure, do everything exactly the same after the surgery and still recover at vastly different speeds. That's just the mystery of human biology.

Here's the second thing to remember: take your time. When recovering from a breast augmentation, give yourself the time to recover from your breast augmentation. When we advise you to rest and relax, we mean it. Trying to push yourself is only going to put yourself in danger and, in the long run, prolong the process.

Most people are able to return to work within a week or two after undergoing a procedure. Again, your timeline will depend on the specifics of your procedure and your lifestyle – for example, the size of your implants, the type of implants you chose, their placement and the nature of your job can all affect your recovery timeline.

Dr. Bottger will discuss your recovery in great detail before your procedure. He'll help you learn what to expect after your procedure, what milestones you'll hit, when you'll be able to see the full results and how often you'll return to our office for follow-ups.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you want to discuss your breast augmentation options, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929

Brow lift candidates in PhiladelphiaThere's no denying that the signs of age and fatigue on your face can undermine the way people see you. You want your appearance to reflect your underlying energy and vigor, but sagging, wrinkled skin can make this impossible. In some cases, a brow lift is exactly the right solution for our Philadelphia-area patients.

A brow lift, whether performed by itself or in combination with another procedure, is exactly what it sounds like: a procedure targeted at lifting and tightening the skin and muscles of your forehead and brow. It also has the effect of lifting sagging upper eyelids.

It's helpful for patients who are dealing with wrinkles, creases, frown lines, sagging skin and other products of age and lifestyle stresses in the forehead. The brow is a prominent part of your face, and it draws the eye. Wrinkles and creases there are very noticeable, which means they need to be dealt with.

If you have one of these concerns, the next step is evaluating your candidacy for a brow lift. The ideal candidate is in good overall health, suffers from no active infections and possesses a clear and healthy set of expectations for the procedure. Dr. Bottger will ensure you only undergo a procedure if it's right for you and can safely achieve your goals.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you're curious about the brow lift or any other procedure, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929

Breast implants in Philadelphia PAOne of the reasons breast augmentation is so popular with women in Philadelphia and around the world is that the procedure is quite customizable. There are a number of choices you can make, especially regarding the nature of your breast implants, that will help you achieve your specific goals and aspirations.

One of the choices you'll need to make – in conjunction with Dr. Bottger, of course – is whether you'll choose saline or silicone breast implants. Both saline and silicone implants are safe and can be chosen with confidence, but both have their advantages and disadvantages, and it's important you know as much as possible before making this decision.

Saline implants – which have a silicone shell but are filled with a saline solution – can be placed through a smaller incision. They can be filled after placement and allow for more customization with regards to size and shape. On the down side, saline implants are at greater risk of rippling, and they tend to feel less natural.

Silicone implants look and feel more natural. They're also much less vulnerable to rippling. On the other hand, they require a slightly longer incision and they're a little more expensive.

Which is right for you? There's no one-size-fits-all solution. Dr. Bottger will work with you to choose the implants that are right for your specific needs.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you're considering breast implants, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929 to schedule a consultation.

Injectables in Philadelphia

Injectables are great options for Philadelphia-area patients who are interested in looking youthful and vigorous while eliminating signs of age and wear. Dr. Bottger and his staff will work with you to find the injectable treatment that's right for you and which will safely achieve your goals.

At our office, we want you get the most out of your time with us. We know that happy patients are patients who tell their friends and families about us, and that's our goal. So we work hard to ensure you have a pleasant experience.

When it comes to injectables, there are a few things you can do that will ensure you get the most out of your treatment and, as a result, out of your experience at our office:

  • Come in with reasonable expectations. Injectables can do great things, but they can't reverse aging or make you look 18 again. They do soften the signs of aging and make your appearance more youthful.
  • Find the right doctor and stick with that doctor. Injectable treatments are quite safe and proven, but only when administered by skilled, experienced, properly trained professionals. Don't hop from one office to the next looking for slightly better results. Find a credible, reputable office, trust the advice they give you and stick with them for the long-term.
  • On a similar note, trust the doctor's advice when it comes to the injectable treatment he or she recommends. Every injectable is different and is designed to achieve a specific goal in a specific treatment area. If you come in thinking about one injectable and the doctor recommends a different one, listen to that advice. It's important you undergo the right treatment if you want to achieve your goals.

We are confident that a careful consideration of your injectable treatment options will lead you to our office. Dr. Bottger and his staff have extraordinary experience in the field of injectables and know how to help you achieve your goals.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you have questions about injectables and what they can achieve for you, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929 for a consultation.

Plastic surgery trends in Philadelphia

Facelifts and other procedures targeted at the face continue to rise in popularity, according to new statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. These statistics, released every year, chronicle trends in plastic surgery – not just in Philadelphia, but across the country.

Specifically, procedures involving the use of a patient's own fat to supplement and sculpt regions of the face and body are becoming increasingly popular. According to the ASPS, minimally invasive cosmetic fat injections are up 13 percent from last year, buttock augmentations involving fat grafting are up 26 percent and breast augmentation involving fat grafts are up 72 percent.

Fat transfers are popular with many patients because they use the body's own materials and not foreign chemicals and because the results of procedures involving fat grafts tend to last longer than the results of other procedures.

All in all, the ASPS said there were 17.1 million cosmetic procedures in the United States in 2016. The top five most popular cosmetic surgeries were:

Of course, just because a procedure is popular doesn't mean it's right for you. Dr. Bottger will help you find the procedure that helps you safely achieve your aesthetic goals.

If you live in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and you want to learn more about what plastic surgery can achieve for you, please call Dr. David A. Bottger, MD today at 610-355-1929 to schedule a consultation and examination.
