The optimum amount of fat to remove in a liposuction procedure is based on a number of factors. The areas to be treated are marked with the patient in a standing position. This estimated amount is modified as the procedure progresses and the optimum change in shape is reached. Generally, in an outpatient setting, no more than five liters of fat is removed at any one time for safety reasons.

The more aggressive the fat removal, the greater the risk of complications. Therefore, Dr. Bottger will always recommend removing the least amount of fat necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals. It is important to remember that liposuction is not intended to be used as weight loss surgery.
