What will a brow lift do for me?

By altering and tightening skin and muscles above the eyebrows, a brow lift removes furrows and wrinkles from the forehead area and elevates the sagging skin of the upper eyelid, restoring a more youthful appearance.

How long does a brow lift take?

Depending on the extent of the procedure, the brow lift surgery itself may last anywhere from one to two hours.

How long will it take to recover from a brow lift?

Bandages are removed after twenty-four hours and you may shower and wash your hair at that time.   Most brow lift patients return to normal activities in about a week.  Staples are removed in one week.  There is some initial swelling and bruising potential around the eyes after surgery which usually resolves within ten days to two weeks.  Strenuous activity can be resumed after about four weeks.

Is a brow lift painful?

The amount of pain experienced varies from person to person but is usually mild to moderate pain for several days.  It is typically well controlled with prescribed medication.

Will there be scars?

Brow lift scars are usually placed behind the hairline and are consequently very well hidden.

Can I have other procedures at the same time?

Yes, many patients choose to have other procedures such as upper or lower eyelid surgery, and/or a facelift while they have a brow lift.  Dr. Bottger will review with you at your initial consultation whether multiple procedures are appropriate for you.

Will I need to stay in the hospital?

A brow lift alone does not typically require an overnight stay in the hospital.  It may be performed either under general anesthesia or using local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.  When it is performed in conjunction with a facelift and/or other cosmetic procedures an overnight stay may be recommended depending on the extent of the procedure.

How is a brow lift/forehead lift performed?

Brow lift may be performed using either an “open” or endoscopic technique.  The open technique involves an incision of variable length usually behind the hairline or in the case of a patient with an exceptionally “long” forehead at the hairline in the mid part of the forehead.  The endoscopic technique – favored by Dr. Bottger in most patients – involves much smaller incisions behind the hairline and  use of a fiber optic camera with small instruments allowing alteration of forehead muscles and elevation of brow and forehead skin.  Generally this technique affords a faster recovery and less overall potential for complications.
