Will I Be Able to Breast Feed After
Breast Reduction Surgery?
Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Also serving West Chester, Newton Square, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania
It is possible that breast reduction surgery can interfere with subsequent breast feeding. This will vary from individual to individual. If your nipple and areola remain attached to a significant amount of breast tissue after surgery, you will most likely be able to breast feed. However, if your breast reduction procedure requires more extensive removal of breast tissue it is possible that future breast feeding may be impacted.
Rarely, and only in very large reductions, a technique is performed which requires removal of the nipple and areola and reattachment as a graft. If this procedure were performed breast feeding would not be possible.
