What Are The Risks of
Breast Augmentation?

Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Also serving West Chester, Newton Square, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Any type of surgery, cosmetic or otherwise, carries the risk of infection. Breast augmentation is no exception. Other complications include:

  • Bleeding or hematoma
  • Excessive firmness of the breasts
  • Loss of nipple sensation
  • Rippling
  • Asymmetrical shape
  • Deflation or rupture of the breast implants
  • Unfavorable scarring

Significant complications are possible but not frequent.
There is presently no scientific evidence linking breast augmentation to breast cancer or any other systemic disease. Both saline and silicone breast implants have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and meet federally mandated safety standards.

The experience and skill level of your surgeon will be an important factor in reducing the risks associated with breast augmentation. By choosing a board certified plastic surgeon, you can be confident that your surgeon has received the most advanced training available and has passed a series of rigorous examinations to verify his abilities. Working with a board certified plastic surgeon also ensures that your breast surgeon has extensive experience performing your desired procedure.
