Breast Augmentation Recovery
Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr, West Chester, Newtown Square, Pennsylvania
Recovery time will vary for each patient. Oral narcotics are usually required for at least several days. You will be asked to wear a compression bandage or a postoperative bra for about a week after your breast augmentation surgery to provide support and help speed the healing process. For the first few days, sleeping at a 45 degree angle will help to improve comfort and minimize swelling. Some bruising and swelling is normal and should subside in five to ten days.
Work can usually be resumed after approximately five to seven days, as long as no heavy lifting is required. Recovery is usually complete after three weeks. Initially breast implants will feel firm and appear somewhat high in the chest. They will drop and soften and acquire their final appearance over a period of one to three months.
Allow three weeks before returning to strenuous activities and heavy exercise. It may take several months for the shape and position to completely stabilize and to see the end results of a breast augmentation.
