What Are The Risks Associated
with Liposuction?

Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Also serving West Chester, Newton Square, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Risks and complications may include but are not limited to:

  • Unfavorable scarring
  • Infections
  • Hematoma
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Skin irregularities
  • Skin looseness
  • Asymmetry
  • Pulmonary complications

It is important to remember that although significant complications can occur, they are rare. The most common risks associated with liposuction are related to removing too much fat from a targeted region at one time. Excessive liposuction can lead to the following issues:

  • Dents
  • Lumps
  • Sagging skin

In order to reduce these risks, Dr. Bottger employs a meticulously performed tumescent liposuction technique using very small cannules. He favors this approach over laser assisted (smart lipo) or ultrasound assisted (vaser) techniques due to the increased incidence of feromas (fluid collection requiring needle aspiration). Additionally, there is no scientific evidence that either of these approaches offer improved results over standard technique.
