Should I Be Concerned That The
Breast Implants Will Rupture?

Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Also serving West Chester, Newton Square, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Saline breast implants are extremely durable. It is estimated that implant rupture rates are approximately 1% per year. If the implant should rupture, your body will naturally and harmlessly absorb the saline or salt-water solution and the implant can be replaced. The implants used by Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. David Bottger are under warranty and if they deflate, you will be supplied a replacement implant and reimbursed a portion of the cost of a secondary procedure.

If your silicone gel breast implant ruptures, the silicone will generally leak out slowly over an extended period of time. You may not even notice that your implant has ruptured for years. If the leaking silicone gel stays contained within the scar tissue capsule, you have nothing to worry about. It will simply stay there. If the silicone leaks outside of the scar tissue capsule, the gel may migrate to other parts of your body, including the lymph nodes under the arm or major organs such as the lungs. It may be impossible to remove the silicone from these regions. The longer you wait to remove your ruptured breast implant, the greater the likelihood that the silicone may migrate to other parts of your body.
