Some lifestyle choices like steroid and marijuana use can cause gynecomastia, but so can medical issues like weight gain and hormonal imbalance. Gynecomastia is usually treated with a combination of liposuction and direct tissue excision. In some cases, excess skin is also removed. The incision is made at the edge of the areola, which leaves only a minor scar.
