Before undergoing breast augmentation, it is important to be aware of and fully understand all of the facts about breast enlargement surgery.
• Types of augmentation: saline or silicone gel
• Type of surgical procedure: invasive outpatient surgery which requires small incisions
• Anesthesia type: general
• Implant location: implants can be placed either above or below the pectoralis muscle
• Average cost: $3,000-$10,000
• Average procedure length: 1-2 hours
• Average recovery time: 1-2 weeks
• Possible risks: implant rupture; capsular contracture resulting in hard, tight breasts; infection; rippling; sensation loss
• Augmentation lifespan: most breast implants will last, on average, for 10 years; however, this varies greatly from woman to woman
